A. Yes. Budget has a wide range of moving accessories available such as trolleys, hyrdraulic lifters, packing blankets, boxes, mattress protectors, packing tape and bubble wrap. These can be rented at an additional cost. Please contact the location you are
renting from to find out availability and cost.
Q. How old do you have to be to rent a car?
A. Most car rental companies require drivers to be over the age of 25. Some Budget locations have lower minimum age requirements, such as 21-25, which may incur a surcharge. Please contact your rental location for full details.
Q. Is there an additional charge if there will be more than one driver?
A. There are no surcharges for additional drivers who meet Budget’s minimum age and licence requirements.
Q. Will Budget check my driving record?
A. To help control liability and insurance costs, several major car rental companies, including Budget, screen for high-risk drivers. Budget may ask potential renters a variety of questions regarding their personal driving records. Whenever a prospective
renter's driving history fails to meet a company's established criteria, the company can deny rental service.
Q. What is Excess Reduction?
A. See Excess Reduction.
Q. What if I decline Excess Reduction?
A. If you choose not to purchase Excess Reduction then you will be liable for the full cost of the excess that is applicable on your rental.
Q. Won't my credit card cover it?
A. Some credit card companies offer protection if you present their card at the time of rental and use the same card to pay for your rental at the time of return. Renters should examine closely the terms of this coverage as the protection is often supplemental
and certain limitations or restrictions may apply.
Q. Are Excess Reduction coverage and rates always the same?
A. Excess Reduction coverage and rates will vary depending on the type of vehicle rented and the age of the driver renting.
Q. What is a security bond?
A. A security bond is a pre - authorisation to your credit card that is used as a form of protection by Budget whilst you are renting a vehicle.
Q. How does a security bond work?
A. When you collect your vehicle a pre -authorisation will be made on your credit card for the bond amount as a security measure by Budget. Provided the vehicle is returned undamaged and no additional charges apply (e.g. fuel), the pre-authorisation is cancelled.
Q. What is a Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee?
A. The Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee (VRRF) is a surcharge to recover the cost of registering a rental vehicle. The VRRF applies to ALL vehicles and varies on a state basis.
Q. How much is the Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee?
A. The Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee (VRRF) for both cars and trucks Australia wide is $5.50 per day.
Q. What refuelling options do I have?
A. Option One: If you aren't sure how far you'll be driving, but plan to stop for petrol, don't pay Budget in advance for petrol and bring the car back full to avoid any refuelling service charge. Option Two: If you won't be using a full tank, and don't have
time to stop for petrol, pay us only for the petrol you use, based on the renting location's per-litre refuelling service charge. Budget customer service representatives can tell you what the renting location's refuelling service charge is when you pick up
the car.
Q. Why do I have to return my car at a set time?
A. Many rates, like weekend specials, are only available during certain time periods. Returning the car after or even before the designated time might affect the rate quoted. Returning the car by the agreed-upon time also helps ensure that all other customers
will have their reserved car available upon their arrival.
Q. If I pick up a car on Tuesday at noon and return it Wednesday at 4 p.m., will I be charged for one day or two?
A. Most car rental rates are based on a 24-hour clock. So in this case, you'd be charged for three extra hours or one additional day, whichever is less. In addition, the charges for optional waivers, optional insurance and surcharges are applied on a 24-hour
basis.
Q. If I want to pick up a car at one location and drop it off at another, does it cost more?
A. Car rental companies may charge renters an extra drop-off fee for cars picked up at one location and returned to another, and sometimes impose a fee for additional mileage. Customers interested in a one-way rental should specifically ask if there are any
drop-off fees or charges for additional mileage and what locations are authorised for such rental car returns.
Q. Why do rental car companies ask for a credit card?
A. Rental companies need to know that their renters are credit-worthy, to minimise vehicle damage and losses. Credit cards and valid drivers' licences usually provide the only information we have about our renters.
Q. Can I use a credit card up front and then pay for the rental with cash when I return the car?
A. Although you present a major credit card at the time of rental, when you return the vehicle, you will be asked if you'd like to keep the rental charges on that credit card or pay cash. Since car rental companies ask for credit approval on the estimated
car rental charges when you pick up the car, that amount will be held against your credit balance on that card for up to 14 days, regardless of how you pay upon return.
Q. What credit card can I use?
A. Budget accepts the following credit/charge cards as credit identification at the time of rental; Budget American Express Diners Club Mastercard and Visa Note that debit cards are accepted provided that the card displays the Visa or Mastercard logo, has
been issued by a bank and has the customer's name and card number on the card. Prepaid and Reloadable Debit cards as well as Travel cards and EFTPOS cards are not acceptable for rental.
Q. Are there any other payment alternatives?
A. Your travel agent can sell you a prepaid voucher that you can use to pay for rentals at various locations within and outside the Australia. In some cases vouchers do not cover taxes, surcharges, additional coverage, extra days, upgrades, etc. Therefore,
you should carefully read the voucher information to understand exactly what is included. You may also be asked to show a credit card as well as a valid driver's licence, even though you have a voucher.
Q. Can I use a debit card?
A. Debit cards are accepted at most locations provided that the card displays the Visa or Mastercard logo, has been issued by a bank and has the customer's name and card number on the card. Prepaid and Reloadable Debit cards as well as Travel cards and EFTPOS
cards are not acceptable for rental. If you are planning to use a debit card please contact your rental location prior to your rental to confirm if it will be accepted, and whether any special conditions may apply.
Q. Why do rates differ?
A. Costs of vehicles, real estate prices, labour costs and special taxes vary from one area to another. Rental rates vary between competitors and may also vary depending on when and where you rent. The company's rates may be higher at an airport location
and lower at a downtown or suburban location.
Q. How can I get the best deal?
A. Car rental pricing is like airline pricing -- if you travel at off-peak times or make a reservation seven or more days in advance, you often get a better deal. Also, watch the Hot Deals section on the Budget web site.
Q. What are the charges for a Where2Portable GPS unit?
A. The rental charge for a Where2 GPS unit is $10.95 per day (incl. GST) and $54.95 per week (incl. GST) from all Budget locations that offer this service in Australia.
Q. How do I reserve a Where2 GPS unit?
A. It's easy to reserve a Where2 GPS unit when you book a car on budget.com.au. If a unit is available at your preferred rental location you will see a 'GPS selection' option on step 3 of the reservation process. If you already have a reservation, simply
visit budget.com.au and modify your reservation to add the GPS navigation option. If the option isn't available at your rental location, you won’t see it as a selection on step 3 of the reservation process.
Q. What locations offer the Where2 GPS units?
A. Where2 GPS units are being progressively offered at a wide range of Budget locations through the end of 2007 and into 2008. If a unit is available at your preferred rental location you will see a 'GPS selection' option on step 3 of the reservation process.
If the option isn't available at your rental location, you won't see it as a selection on step 3 of the reservation process.
Q. Which models of Budget Rental vehicles are equipped with Where2 GPS?
A. Since Where2 GPS navigation is a portable system, it can be used with any Budget vehicle. So whether your renting a sporty convertible, the new Mitsubishi lancer or a family car, Budgets Where2 GPS can open up a whole new road to adventure!
Q. How accurate is Where2 GPS?
A. Today's GPS units are extremely accurate, thanks to their high- sensitivity receivers. However, certain atmospheric factors, including severe weather and other sources of error, can affect the accuracy of GPS receivers. Where2 GPS receivers are accurate
to within 15 metres, 95 percent of the time.
Q. How easy-to-use is the Where2 GPS system? I’m not a very technical person.
A. Not to worry - the Where2 GPS system is designed for simplicity. It's small and portable and is simple to operate. It's so easy to use, you won't even need the included quick-start guide (but we’ve included it just in case).
Q. How can I use Where2 GPS navigation if my hands are on the wheel?
A. To help ensure your safety, the system is designed to be programmed only when your vehicle is standing still. Just program your desired location before you start driving, and Where2 will do the rest! The system has a built in microphone that will direct
you to your location, so you don’t have take your hands off the wheel while your driving.
Q. Where can I return my Where2 GPS unit? Can I use it for one-way rentals?
A. The Where2 GPS unit must always stay with the Budget rental vehicle. So it needs to be returned to the original rental location UNLESS you pre-arrange to return both your car and the Where2 Unit to a different APPROVED drop-off location. If the unit is
dropped off at a location that has not been pre-approved a Where2 drop-off charge of $250 plus admin fee, GST and airport concession recovery fee (if applicable) will apply to the rental in addition to any one-way charge that may apply for the rental of the
vehicle.
Q. What happens if my Where2 GPS unit is lost, stolen or damaged?
A. The charge for a lost, stolen or any damage to the Unit is $495 plus admin fee, GST and airport concession recovery fee (if applicable). To minimise the chance of having the unit lost whilst in your possession, we recommend that the unit is never left
unattended in the vehicle – take it with you!
Q. What do I do if the Where2 GPS system asks me for a PIN code?
A. If the Where2 GPS device prompts you to enter a PIN code into the device, just locate the vehicle rental documentation you received from the rental customer service representative. The PIN code is located on the rental agreement document in the left-hand
column.
Q. Where do I find my PIN code?
A. You'll find the PIN on your Rental Agreement in the left-hand column labelled "GPS PIN". Enter the PIN code into the device and it will work properly. If the PIN code can't be located on the Rental Agreement, please call the rental location on the number
listed on your Rental Agreement to obtain your code.
