Fastbreak Pick up: Proceed to the Budget Fastbreak line or Budget rental counter. Present your driver licence and receive your rental agreement and keys.

Fastbreak Return: Park the vehicle and lock it. If a return agent is not available in the rental car park, proceed to the rental counter/office with your vehicle keys, mileage and fuel level. You can access your receipt online within 72 hours of returning your vehicle.

General Directions

COUNTER: Located approx. 5m from the terminal entrance on the right-hand side.

CARS: Exit the terminal and cross the pedestrian crossings to the rental car park, approx. 25m on the left.

RETURNS: Take the third exit (turn right) from the Watchman Rd roundabout. The rental car park entry is located on the left.

AFTER-HOURS RETURNS: Available during airport hours only. Key drop box on counter in terminal.

Car Hire Napier Airport

Hawke’s Bay Airport, also known as Napier Airport (NPE), is the main commercial airport in the Hawke’s Bay region. It offers flights to several different airports in New Zealand. Napier is a beautiful coastal city in the wine-producing region of the North Island. It makes an ideal base for exploring Hastings, the Hawke’s Bay Region, and the forest parks and lakes to the north and west.

If you’re flying into Napier Airport, the best way to get around the area is by car. Budget offers a range of affordable vehicle rental options for visitors to Napier. Take advantage of easy car hire from Napier Airport to ensure your trip is a memorable one.

Car Hire in Hawke’s Bay Airport

The Budget car rental counter is located on the left side of the terminal building toward the northern end. The counter is open 7am – 8.30pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am – 6pm Saturday, and 8.30am – 8pm Sunday.

Napier Airport is a Fastbreak location meaning you can save time when collecting and dropping off your hire vehicle by simply showing ID and dropping off your rental agreement when you return the car. Napier Airport Information

Hawke’s Bay Airport has only one terminal. The terminal building opens at 5.20 am Monday to Saturday and 7am Sunday, and closes after the last flight of the day.

To get to the airport from Napier City, drive north on State Highway 2 and enter the airport at the new roundabout to the south of the airport at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Watchman Road. The old entrance on State Highway Road is now closed. It takes about 10 minutes to drive from Napier CBD to the airport.

The drive from Hastings is about 20 minutes. Take State Highway 50 North toward Napier. Continue past Napier on State Highway 2B until you reach the turnoff for the airport.

Things to See and Do Around Napier Airport

There is plenty to see and do in Napier and the surrounding area. If you don’t want to travel too far from the airport on the final day of your trip, consider visiting one of these attractions.

The Botanical Gardens in Napier was developed in the 19th century and sprawls over 18 acres including an aviary, duck pond, waterfall, and walking tracks. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place for a walk or a picnic.

If you’re interested in history, Napier Prison now houses a museum with self-guided audio tours that offer insight into the prison and the earthquake that devastated the city in 1931. There’s also an escape room for those who like to get interactive.

The National Aquarium of New Zealand is located in the south of the city and is great fun for the whole family. There’s an underwater glass tunnel, as well as shark and penguin feeding opportunities.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to sample the wines of the area, make sure to squeeze in a visit to the Mission Estate Winery. There’s a cellar door tasting available for $6 and the restaurant offers casual lunches and more formal evening dining.

Fuel Locations Near Hawke’s Bay Airport

Need to fuel up before you return your rental car to Napier airport? There are several petrol stations around Napier, the closest to the airport being Allied Petroleum on State Highway 50 just past Ahuriri Park. Caltex is conveniently located on State Highway 2 if you’re coming from the city.

For those travelling from the north, the Z Bay View Truck Stop is just off State Highway 2, opposite Hawke’s Bay Holiday Park.
