Casting your eyes to your
weekend fishing trip already?
Of course you are. When you spend 5 days out of 7 with your nose to the grindstone you need something to look forward to.
Sadly not everyone has the luxury to cast a line after work and trying to get the time off can be riskier than ordering the Fisherman’s Basket at the Alice Springs RSL. Luckily for you, we’ve got a few hot tips so you can get your angling fix without having to leave your home.
Seaspray – You can’t have seafood without the sea, and sea spray is a great way to get the feeling of open water without opening your front door.
Homemade sea spray is easier to make than shooting fish in a barrel. Just combine equal parts salt and water in a spray bottle and you’re good to go. For extra authenticity sit in front of a fan and spray to your heart’s content.
Tangled lines – The talent of untangling fishing lines is the mark of a true angler, and practicing at home is a great way to keep your skills sharper than your hooks. But don’t worry about dragging the tacklebox up from the garage, all you need to do is put all the pairs of headphones you have in the house in the dryer for 10-15 minutes.
Fishy smell – The smell of bait in the height of summer is the necessary evil of any authentic fishing experience. But for a couple of bucks it’s one of the easiest things to recreate at home – and if you do it right, it’ll stick around for days.
Simply leave some prawns out on the front porch overnight until the smell hits you like a sledgehammer. In a pinch, microwaving them can achieve the same result but as they say, good things come to those who wait.
