Canberra

This is a wonderful area located in the Australian Capital Territory, with urban, bush, and agricultural attractions.  Canberra is the urban center, the capital of Australia, a planned city with many government agencies along with quite a lot of cultural interests.  There are two Budget Rent a Car locations in the region to make it convenient for moving about the area.

Canberra was built as a planned city following a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne as to which one would be the capital city.  It is laid out with many geometrical motifs, different from the regular street grid you see in most cities.  Your Budget car hire will help you explore as you visit such attractions as the Parliament Houses, the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery.  In addition, Lake Burley Griffin which lies in the middle of the city, provides wonderful outdoor space.  There are many walking paths, parks and lots of water activity available.

Further out in the region provides many more opportunities for play and relaxation, short trips in the Budget rental car.  There are 140 vineyards in the region with 35 wineries providing many types of wine and many places to dine.  A great way to get out into nature and get a fantastic view of the city is to visit the Mount Ainslie Lookout, a part of the Canberra Nature Park complex.  There are many walking paths and mountain bike trails available in the Nature Park.

The region also provides many golf courses, skate parks, swimming pools, tennis courts, biking paths and sporting ovals which are open to the public.

For more bush experiences drive the rental car out to the Namadgi National Park, a rocky wilderness bush land containing a portion of the mountainous Australian Alps.  Within the Namadgi lies the Tidbinbilla Nature Preserve where one can learn about aboriginal history and observe wildlife.
