Cairns City, Far North, Queensland

Be prepared for a touch of paradise when you visit Cairns, it has all the features and attractions both natural and manmade that make it one of the most popular international locations for visitors. One of the natural attractions for this Northern Queensland city is that it has a tropical climate which is very popular with foreign visitors but it never feels crowded. In addition it is a preferred stopover for the luxury cruise ships.

When you arrive you need to pick up a Budget Rent a Car so that you may follow the schedule of your desire and not have it dictated depending upon public transportation. There are two locations for your convenience, one in town and one at the airport.

To start your adventure head down to the Esplanade Boardwalk where you can see the gorgeous beaches and get a feel for the area while relaxing from your journeys. Not too far from the Boardwalk is the Esplanade Swimming Lagoon, a 4800 square metre salt water swimming lagoon which is open year round. There are lifeguards, entry is free, the water is filtered and the swim area is safe from any wildlife. The kids can play in the sand and adults have lounge chairs in the shade to be able to relax and enjoy.

After all that relaxation time, jump in your Budget car hire and head to the beaches or out to the Great Barrier Reef, a World Heritage site, and take a glass bottom boat tour or snorkel from the boat. You could visit some islands which are also National Parks such as Fitzroy Island or Green Island to get a full Reef experience.

The additional wilderness you need to experience while you are here is the Daintree Rainforest. Just a short drive from Cairns in your Budget rental car, this is also a World Heritage site, there are tours available to see and learn about the world’s oldest tropical rainforest and most complex ecosystem.
